Women into Homebuilding
Developed by the Home Builders Federation (HBF), we are pleased to support this funded three-week annual programme designed to provide site management experience for women and promote greater diversity within the industry. The programme includes an initial week of online training and insight sessions, followed by a two-week work experience placement on one of our sites.
For further information on this scheme please visit HBF.co.uk/WIHB.
“The placement was a brilliant opportunity to ‘get my foot in the door’ of the construction industry. It has allowed me to explore different areas within construction and see where my interests and skills suit.”

Trainees
Trainees at untypical have the unique opportunity of combining practical on-the-job training with formal learning, providing a strong foundation for a rewarding career in the built environment. We offer hands-on experience across a variety of key roles, from learning the fundamentals of project management and site operations to surveying, estimating and buying.
With guidance from skilled mentors and access to industry-recognised qualifications, trainees are well-equipped to grow professionally and contribute meaningfully to their chosen field.
Typically lasting between one and four years, trainees learn directly on the job while also attending college or training sessions to support their development. As trainees are paid a wage, but do not need to pay tuition fees, it is an accessible and affordable way to start or change a career.
There are two pathways you can follow as a Trainee:
- Apprenticeship programme – a government funded programme that is available in four levels – intermediate, advanced, higher and degree.
- Alternative formal learning – a company funded programme that offers alternative forms of learning, training and degree related courses.
