Marking Walk to School Week
untypical has marked Walk to School Week 2026 with a coordinated programme of community activity spanning six counties, with its housebuilding brand Tilia Homes donating more than 140 high-visibility jackets to local primary schools and opening its developments to families for after-school refreshment stops across the Eastern and Western regions.
The initiative, running from 18th to 22nd May, is part of a deliberate approach to community engagement that untypical has started building into its development activity.
Heike O'Leary, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at untypical, added:
"Community engagement is most effective when it's consistent and rooted in something genuine, and that's what we're aiming for here. This is our most coordinated Walk to School Week programme to date, and we're committed to building on it year on year. The response from schools and families this week has reinforced why our support in local communities matters beyond the sales suite."
Emma Jones, Headteacher of Woolpit Primary Academy, said:
“We are really grateful for the donation of high-visibility jackets, which will help keep our pupils safe when walking to and from school. “Encouraging active travel is an important part of promoting healthy lifestyles, and this support will make a real difference to our school community.”
Walk to School Week is a national initiative encouraging children and families to travel actively to school, supporting healthier lifestyles, reduced congestion and greater environmental awareness.
The campaign reflects untypical’s wider commitment to creating sustainable communities that promote wellbeing, encourage active lifestyles and foster positive connections within the neighbourhoods it's helping to create.
This year's programme represents untypical's most coordinated participation to date, with Tilia Homes teams across multiple developments in Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire and Devon all active during the week.
