From site manager to skipper
A Hopkins Homes site manager is celebrating success both on and off the construction site after being named captain of Holt Rugby Football Club's 1st XV.
Melvyn Gilmour, who leads construction at Hopkins Homes' Tanners Quarter development in North Walsham, will captain the club for the forthcoming season while continuing to oversee the delivery of one of North Norfolk's newest communities.
To recognise Melvyn's achievement, Hopkins Homes, part of the untypical group, is sponsoring him for the season ahead. By day, Melvyn will continue to manage construction at The Tanners Quarter in North Walsham, where Hopkins Homes is creating a new community following successful completion of its Holt development. Away from site, he'll be leading Holt RFC onto the pitch as its new captain.
Having played for Holt RFC for many seasons, Melvyn is well known across North Norfolk's rugby community. With more than 70 appearances for the club's 1st XV at full-back, his appointment as captain marks a significant milestone in a playing career.
Melvyn Gilmour, Site Manager at Hopkins Homes and Holt RFC 1st Team Captain, said:
"Being named 1st Team Captain means the world to me. I've been part of Holt RFC for many years and have played over 70 games for the 1st XV, so to lead the lads out this season is genuinely one of the proudest moments of my life.
"To have Hopkins Homes supporting me this season makes it even more special. It's fantastic to work for a company that recognises the importance of local sport and encourages its people to get involved in the communities where they live and work."
Ashley Woods, Director of Rugby at Holt RFC, said:
"Congratulations to Mel on the captaincy. It's a fantastic achievement. He's a natural leader on and off the pitch, and his determination will galvanise the squad. With Mel at the helm, we will rise again, and there will be exciting and enjoyable times ahead."
Ben Fewsdale, Regional Managing Director at untypical's Anglia region, said:
"We're incredibly proud of Melvyn. His appointment as captain reflects the leadership, commitment and teamwork he demonstrates every day on site, and we're delighted to support him as he takes on this new challenge.
"As we continue building new communities across Norfolk, it's important that we also support the people who help make those communities such great places to live."
Hopkins Homes continues to invest across Norfolk, with The Tanners Quarter in North Walsham offering a collection of two, three and four-bedroom homes. Designed to create a thriving new community, the development includes a children's play area, community orchard, allotments and green walking and cycling routes, alongside energy-efficient homes built to M4(2) accessibility standards and equipped with air source heat pumps and A or B EPC ratings as standard.
