Supporting Cycle to School Week
Pupils and families across England were encouraged to swap four wheels for two during Cycle to School Week, as untypical supported the national campaign through its Tilia Homes and Hopkins Homes brands.
Sales teams at developments across England welcomed local families with healthy refreshments and free high-visibility snap bands.
The activity formed part of Cycle to School Week, organised by The Bikeability Trust from 5 to 9 October. The annual campaign encourages children, families and schools to discover the health, wellbeing and environmental benefits of everyday cycling.
Supporting pupils in Wixams
Among the schools taking part was Willow Grove Primary School in Wixams, Bedfordshire.
Children and their families were invited to visit the nearby Tilia Homes development after school, where they could enjoy healthy snacks and refreshments and collect a free high-visibility snap band for their journey home.
Lisa Kennedy, Headteacher at Willow Grove Primary School, said:
“Cycling to school is a great way for children to get active and build their confidence, while enjoying time outdoors with their families.
“It was lovely to see our pupils getting involved in Cycle to School Week. Thank you to Tilia Homes for supporting the initiative and helping us encourage families to consider walking and cycling for their journey to school.”
The Wixams event was one of several held by Tilia Homes and Hopkins Homes across their Anglia, Eastern, Central and Western regions.
Jon Cook, Regional Managing Director for untypical’s Eastern region, said:
“Cycle to School Week is a great opportunity for families to give cycling a go and think about how they make shorter everyday journeys.
“Walking and cycling to school can help children get active and build confidence, while reducing the number of cars around the school gates. We were pleased to support Willow Grove Primary School and other communities across the region in encouraging pupils and their families to take part.”
The initiative reflects untypical’s wider commitment to creating well-connected communities and encouraging residents to consider more active and sustainable ways to make everyday journeys. Across its developments, the group supports measures designed to make walking, cycling and public transport accessible and convenient choices for residents.
Cycle to School Week is organised by The Bikeability Trust and encourages schools and families to experience the benefits of cycling as part of their daily routine.
