Andy Webb

Senior Site Manager

Qualifications: Diploma, Construction Site Supervision

Andy Webb is a Senior Site Manager at our dual-branded Wixams development.  He received an NHBC Pride in the Job Award, becoming one of the UK's top performing site managers.

While the award celebrates individual achievement, Andy is clear that delivering award-winning homes is never down to one person. It takes leadership, collaboration and a shared commitment to quality from everyone on site.

We spoke to Andy about the skills that underpin his role, how he builds a culture of excellence and why leadership in construction is about bringing people together to achieve a shared goal.

Receiving an NHBC Pride in the Job Award is a significant achievement. What did that recognition mean to you?

"Finding out I'd won was a huge moment. To be recognised as one of the top five per cent of site managers is something I'm incredibly proud of, especially knowing it's the result of months of hard work from the whole team.

"It's fantastic personally, but awards like this are never won by one individual. Everyone on site has contributed to achieving it."

"Quality isn't something you inspect at the end—it's built into every stage of construction.

"We have a rigorous process throughout the build to make sure we're handing over the best possible home to our customers. Every detail matters, and maintaining those standards consistently is what ultimately delivers the finished product."

Managing the first dual-branded Tilia Homes and Hopkins Homes site has brought its own opportunities to learn.

"Being a new site team and managing two brands meant we had some challenges early on, but working through those together has helped us continually improve."

"Leadership, communication and staying calm under pressure have all transferred directly from the military into construction. You're leading people, making decisions, solving problems and setting standards every day. The technical knowledge can be learned, but those behaviours are what help you succeed."

"Communication is probably the biggest one. You need to bring together lots of different people, all with different responsibilities, and make sure everyone is working towards the same goal.

"Organisation, planning and being approachable are just as important. If people feel supported, they'll always do their best work."

That collaborative approach is something Andy believes is essential to maintaining consistently high standards.

"Everyone on site has to buy into the same ethos. From the bottom to the top, we're all working towards delivering the best possible homes for our customers."

"It's about setting expectations from the beginning and leading by example.

"Everyone has an important role, whether that's keeping the site running smoothly, supporting our trades or sharing knowledge and experience. When everyone understands the standards we're aiming for, quality becomes everyone's responsibility."

Andy is quick to recognise the colleagues who have helped create that culture, including Rob Matthews, Dan Brealey, Dwyane Lawson, Naomi Hind, Lewis Sell and Jason Stewart.

"This award belongs to all of us."

"Staying calm and finding solutions is a huge part of the job.

"Things don't always go to plan, but it's about communicating well, prioritising what needs to happen and working together to keep moving forward. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and improve."

"Everything we do is with the customer in mind.

"We want every customer to enjoy their new home and we'll do everything we can to make that happen. Whether it's maintaining quality throughout the build or making sure the final finish is exactly as it should be, that's always our focus."

For Andy, the most rewarding part of the job comes right at the end of the journey.

"Seeing what started as a blank canvas become someone's home is incredibly satisfying. Handing over the keys and knowing you've played a part in that is a great feeling."

"Construction is always evolving, so you have to keep learning.

"Whether it's environmental training, new building techniques or learning from colleagues, there's always something new to take on board. You can never stand still in this industry."

Andy is also passionate about helping others succeed.

"As I progress in my career, I'd love to help and encourage others who are striving to achieve Pride in the Job themselves. Sharing knowledge and supporting people to develop is something I really enjoy."

"Listen, ask questions and never stop learning.

"Build strong relationships, work hard and take pride in what you do. Technical knowledge is important, but so are communication, teamwork and the right attitude. Those are the skills that will help you build a successful career."
